MA (Hons) MA (Res) L3 CYQ Pilates
My name is Ann and I was introduced to Pilates by a Health Professional over 6 years ago as I was suffering from back problems after the birth of my second child. Keen to take some positive steps to help my body re-align, I joined my local gym, took up swimming regularly and signed up for my first Pilates classes with a private instructor. Within weeks I had noticed the difference and was feeling stronger and better able to manage my back at the same time as my young family. I have been a convert ever since and eventually decided to take the plunge and qualify as a teacher so that I could spread the good word about Pilates.
A former Project Manager & Researcher in the Higher Education sector, but now qualified with a CYQ Level 3 Diploma in Teaching Pilates & a certified Rehabilitative Breast Cancer Exercise Specialist, I am a capable instructor who works with clients and their conditions in order to develop training sessions to specifically meet their needs. I have experience of working with clients with conditions such as Scoliosis, Spondylolisthesis and Herniated Discs, Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis, but also Depression & Anxiety. I am also trained to use small equipment in my sessions and enjoy offering enhanced sessions as a result. I was trained in Classical/Traditional Pilates by Marie Claire Prettyman, Fitt Pilates Course Director. She was herself trained by Body Control Pilates and is the author of “Opposition in Pilates & Yoga”, as well as founder of www.themovementspecialist.co.uk
I am also a qualified Fitness Yoga Instructor. Fitness Yoga combines a lot of the traditional styles of Yoga but brings it into the 21st century. The postures (asanas) are simple, progressive and challenging all at the same time and the emphasis is on helping each person to become focused, strong and relaxed. It combines elements of Hatha and Ashtanga Yoga to create a fantastic and modern yoga style that suits all ages and abilities.
I am also a Member of the Register of Exercise Professionals, hold Public Liability Insurance and am Emergency First Aid at Work trained.
What my clients say:
“I’m loving the Pilates classes, finding out about my core and how much I have to do to improve. Great teacher!”
“Pilates has transformed my body! Classes are enjoyable and fun with clear instruction and tailored to all ages. There is extra instruction to individuals which is very helpful.”
“I attended a Pilates class for 5 years on the mainland and was delighted to find Ann’s intermediate class. Ann is a fantastic Pilates teacher. She really focusses on doing each exercise/movement correctly and somehow manages to keep a running dialogue as she and we do each exercise with the right group of muscles engaged or relaxed and of course the right breathing! I love my weekly class and really feel Ann gives my body a full workout. Ann very discreetly addresses any of our bodies’ injuries or ailments with different exercises and of the course the handy tip of how to make exercises more challenging for those who want it. I travel 45 minutes to this class and it’s so good I would do it twice a week if she ran another intermediate class! Truly fantastic!”
“Explanations are good, classes are at a great time and Ann helps me get into the correct positions. I always leave feeling calm and a lot taller!”
“I am gaining a lot from the exercises and learning a lot about my body. Feeling better for coming.”
“It helps for me to be aware of muscles I did not know I have!”
